Description:
About 3 inches of pure orneriness. This fellow has staked his claim on my nectar feeder, and woe to anyone who ventures near it. He even chases away the lady hummers! He can usually be found perched about 40 feet away on this exact twig, ready in a flash and an angry twitter and buzz to chase away anyone, bird or beast, that dares come close to the feeder. We have named him "Henry the Horrible Hummer"! lol
He is actually very brilliant emerald green on his back and head, and has a ruby-red bib. These colors are iridescent, and only show up when the light is hitting him just right.
Habitat:
Henry lives in the overgrown thicket adjacent to our home. It is in what was once Turkey Oak/Longleaf Pine Sandhill.
Notes:
In picture two, he's actually sticking his tongue out.. He once hovered in front of my window keeping an eye on me as I refilled the feeder, as if to say "come ON, lady! Hurry up!" ... the cheeky bugger!
