Field Notes

Description:

The Wavy Top is a periwinkle, a marine gastropod, and is not dissimilar to the Zebra Top Periwinkle - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/35918032 This particular spotting caught my eye. The water was flowing around it perfectly, completely covering the shell. It looked like glass, and the colours were rich because of the late afternoon sunlight.

Habitat:

Ocean rock pools at North Avoca Beach.

Notes:

Beautifully crystal-clear seawater on the now receding tide. The last photo shows the crazy trails the snails leave in the sand.
