Field Notes

Description:

Eurasian Collared-Doves have almost the same characteristics of a mourning; long tail, small head, and a plump body. Except they’re larger than Mourning Doves, and their tail are squared off at the tip instead pointed.

Habitat:

The Eurasian Collared-Doves live in urban and suburban areas throughout the U.S. except the Northeast because they want to avoid cold temperatures. They can be found in backyards, and on farms where grain is available.

Notes:

These birds are one of very few species that can drink with their head down into the water like drinking through a straw. Most birds must scoop water and tip the head back to let it run down into the throat.
