Brown dry fungus splitting open on one side. Squeezing through the space between two bricks.

Notes:

Brick walkway was just completed a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the suggestion lenrely. It just doesn't look like a puffball to me. So I'm going to leave it unidentified.

I think that's a Calvatia puffbull which usually grows in lawns, but just happened to grow in a weird place.
