Pink-Striped Oakworm Moth
Anisota virginiensis
28.7113, -81.4629
Field Notes
Description:
Quite a large moth, about 4.5cm total length. The body was very fat and fuzzy, covered in orange hair. The wings were ruddy with a beautiful purplish edge, and a single white dot in the middle of each. He was pretty chilled out, someone picked him up and he seemed fine until he squirted really horrible liquid out of his butt. Then he flew off! Adults do not feed and are active during the daytime.
Habitat:
Found this at Wekiwa Spring in Florida, quite a muggy and swampy area.
