Field Notes

Description:

large mantis, all green, about 4"

Habitat:

amazon

Notes:

I was super stoked to see this shield mantis during a nighthike in Tupana Aru reserve. I had only seen this in National Geographic before. This mantis had a temper and got really angry and raised up when I got too close so I just took a few pics and left it alone.

Thanks for the comment Matt, but how can you be certain? Do you have a reference link? It still looks like C. stalli to me.
Wow, that really is a great find, incredible camouflage
Serious mantis. Kudos Bayucca!
I'm so surprised.
Thanks bayucca, I just have these pics but it does look like C. stall. Thanks also Sergio and Luis.
Choeradodinae, Choeradodis sp. and most probably Choeradodis stalli: http://www.flickr.com/photos/31984806@N02/6690106475 http://anotheca.com/wordpress/2010/02/22/the-acts-canopy-walkway/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/mantisdeperu/sets/72157628852665121/with/6690077415/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/80125969@N00/4312086768 Other candidate would Choeradodis strumaria, but the edges of the anterior shield is more straight and not scalloped as in Stalli. But that's only what I can see after looking at dozens of Choeradodis. There is not much info about and not really trustable sites around. Do you have a picture from the underside? Please, verify!! http://www.flickr.com/photos/80125969@N00/4312086768 http://www.superstock.com/preview.asp?image=1848R-727269&imagex=12&id=19101136&productType=2&pageStart=0&pageEnd=100&pixperpage=100&hitCount=20&filterForCat=&filterForFotog= http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choeradodis_rhombicollis http://www.todofauna.com/foros/showthread.php?27776-Choeradodis-columbica http://tw.knowledge.yahoo.com/question/question?qid=1511100214131 http://www.insecte.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=22638
