Field Notes

Description:

A medium-sized bird that sings with a longer tail. It has a small head with a long, thin bill that curves slightly downwards, and long legs. Their wings are short, and round.

Habitat:

Northern Mockingbirds are found in areas with open ground and with shrubby vegetation like hedges, fruiting bushes, and thickets. They can be found in backyards, parks, and open land at low elevations.

Notes:

Northern Mockingbirds sing throughout the day. Female northern mockingbird sings too, but less than the male northern mockingbird. Most nocturnal singers are unmated males sing more than mated males during the day. Nighttime singing is more common during the full moon.
