Field Notes

Habitat:

Suburban backyard near pastures and young woods.

Notes:

This young'un came for breakfast today. Though I think he or she has been frequenting our yard for a few weeks now. Is quite big as hawks go. About the size of a Red-tailed hawk but not the same markings.

Could it be a Harris' Hawk juvenile? The yellow legs and beak (cere?) part and bars on the tail seem indicative.

A red tail would not have the yellow if I am correct. I think it too bulky for a Cooper. And a Sharp shinned hawk doesn't have the yellow on the beak.
