Field Notes

Description:

Hidden in foliage and behind branches, this is a vivid yellow-orange bird with a black patch over the eyes and side of face. It is almost hidden...very shy but I have cropped the photo so that it is more visible. I think I have just this one shot.

Habitat:

Hotel in Guadalajara. It had lovely grounds and tall trees and hedges, sheltered nooks and crannies, small bathing pools and secret fountains. Heart of city with busy thoroughfare just outside.

Notes:

I see the Black-Hooded Oriole or Oriolus xanthornus at home quite frequently. This one was a new one for me.
