Field Notes

Description:

My first porcupine spotting

Habitat:

This animal is usually found in coniferous and mixed forested areas in Canada, Alaska, and much of the northern and western United States. They are also found in thicketed areas in shrublands, tundra and deserts as far south as northern Mexico. They make their dens in holes in trees or in rocky areas.

Notes:

I encountered him in the early morning while hiking in the woods. First I didn't know what it was actually, as he was walking straight forward me and he didn't noticed me.
Honestly I found it a bit ugly for a moment, but then, it was ok and recognize it as a porcupine when he saw me and presented its spines.

Thank you Dandoucette, it was around 5am, maybe there was a party in the woods and then he was indeed going back home.
Great spotting! So lucky to have seen it during the day. Must have been going back to his sleeping place.
Thank you Marta! It's nice when they manage to no fall on your head... :)
Nice spotting! I saw one when I was years ago in Saguenay. He was up a tree :-)
