Field Notes
Description:
These fruitbodies are semi-circular or fully circular brackets with wavy edges, some 2-5cm across. They are stemless but narrowly attached to the substrat, and growing in layers. The upper surface sports concentric zones of various shades of brown and ochre, and presents wavy edges. The underside is reddish-brown, smooth and without pores (pic N°5).
Habitat:
Found growing on dead trees and braches, discarded and lying around on forest floor (pic N° 6) of a lowland broadleaved forest (oak and beech), in Geneva lake valley.
Notes:
Two Stereum species comes to mind: S. ostrea (Golden Curtain Crust); or S. subtomentosum (Yellowing Curtain Crust) and both are sometimes called False Turkey tail.
