Field Notes

Description:

Approximately 60mm wide; white with pale bands and 'hoof' shaped on top; possibly yellow-cream stem?; white under surface with clear open pores.
Also of interest is the cluster of seeds against the trunk near a small cavity... maybe a small, seed collecting creature was hiding in the back of it.

Habitat:

On the side of an old eucalyptus stump next to a stream in dry sclerophyll eucalyptus forest.

Notes:

Distinctively this one is often white on top and has what looks like a short stipe from the top into the substrate.
Endemic to Australia and New Zealand.
