Field Notes
Description:
This moth was about 35 mm long with tented pale grey-brown wings. Fore wings showed dark spots of varied shapes, but the submarginal areas appeared to be free of any such pattern.
Thick furry thorax, legs and abdomen were an ochre colour. This moth had beautiful feathery ochre antennae.
Habitat:
Flew into the house last night after a slightly warm last day of Autumn.
It is found in Tasmania and Victoria, in Australia.
Notes:
My thanks to Peter Marriott for identifying the species.
Larvae of O.antipoda feed on grasses. They live in underground tunnels lined with silk near the food source, for up to two years. They come out to feed at night.
