Field Notes

Description:

Eurasian coots (Fulica atra) are fairly common in lakes, lagoons, estuaries and rivers of Greece. Although this coot had already made one brood (there was a young coot nearby following this bird in its every move), it was building the nest for the second (or possibly third) brood of the year. What amazed me was that the nest was build in plain sight, fully exposed to predators.
