Field Notes

Description:

This is one of the meadowhawks, genus Sympetrum. Unfortunately, this is a common but confusing group that requires a hand lens examination of genetalia for ID confirmation. However, in Vermont, since it has black legs and no other unique features, chances are 99% that it is Sympetrum internum, or Cherry-faced meadowhawk.

Habitat:

Meadow
