Field Notes

Description:

Black beetle with long antennae.

Habitat:

I've been describing this habitat as open. It's open because most of the pine trees were destroyed by pine beetles. Dead trees are still piled up like matchsticks within a couple of hundred ft.

Notes:

I've been seeing these beetles on a daily basis in the same area. Perhaps the same individuals. My previous spotting of this species was taken about 20 ft. away from these pics. The longer antennae indicate this is a male. The previous spotting a female.
