Field Notes

Description:

Forewings are grey with red veins and white spots, whilst underwings are orange at the bottom, and red towards the top with two white spots towards the abdomen. The abdomen is red with white spots and the thorax is red with white stripes.

Habitat:

Attracted to lights.

Notes:

Caught with net until he calmed down enough for me to handle. This is the 3rd 'big' moth found in the Smoky Mountains.
