Purple hairstreak

This is only the second time this butterfly has been recorded at Brockadale meadows! It is a female and it appears that she was laying eggs in the Oak leaves. extremely hard to see as they are tiny, pale and fly high up in the tall Oaks! More widespread down in Southern England where the temperature is warmer. Usually seen flying on warm evenings. These butterflies feed on honeydew not nectar.
