Description:

This boldly-striped yellow and black wasp is a social wasp species. They are nearly hairless and are approximately 1 cm (.5 in) in length. Can sting repeatedly and are very aggressive in defending their nest.

Habitat:

Widely spread throughout Europe, northern Africa, and are found as an exotic, invasive species in eastern and central North America and parts of South America.

Notes:

This insect resembles the North American species of yellow jackets, which they often replace as their population spreads.
