Eastern Milk Snake
(Lampropeltis triangulum triangulum)
43.2234, -85.5514
Field Notes
Description:
I found this Eastern Milk Snake four days ago underneath a big cement slab in the middle of a old farm field. These snakes are mainly nocturnal as they do most of their hunting at night and hide underneath leaf litter, old logs, rocks, boards, cement slabs (like this one was), and anything else that could conceal them during the day. This is the third Eastern Milk Snake that I have seen in the wild and each time they have been very aggressive, even though most field guides will say that they are very docile and never really show aggression. This particular snake was going into the beginning stages of shedding its skin, the "milky" glazed look over its eye is a good indication, when it is done shedding the colors on this snake will be much more striking.
