indigo bunting
Passerina cyanea
34.6874, -86.7371
Field Notes
Description:
Bright blue feathers all over with some black wing feathers. Smaller than an American robin and larger than a Carolina wren. Rounded head, short yellow beak, short legs.
Habitat:
This bird was hopping around in the grass and flower bed, alternately perching on a maple tree branch, in the front yard of a suburban home.
Notes:
This is the first time I've ever seen an indigo bunting in Alabama, and I'm 66 years old. I saw one in Kentucky several years ago.
