Field Notes
Description:
Ospreys are diurnal, fish-eating birds of prey. They are large raptors, reaching more than 60 cm (24 in) in length and 180 cm (71 in) across the wings. They are brown on the upperparts and predominantly greyish on the head and underparts, with a black eye patch and wings.
Habitat:
If you ever pass by the Osprey center from Loch Garten, Scotland, one obvious attraction is that they have a protected woodland/grassland area for ospreys to nest. They follow up on the evolution of the nesting pairs and keep track of the individuals returning from migration to the place.
Unfortunately for regular photographers like me (but very fortunately for the ospreys :-) the nesting place is not open to the public. However you can see the ospreys from the center with binoculars and they have also set up a webcam to monitors the chicks in one of the nests. The video shows what we saw through the web cam since at the moment a nesting couple had chicks in their nest.
