@Agustín Amenabar: I know that you are careful, but be aware that lots of creatures are toxic, so please be careful touching them ;-)
@Rieko. Same here! before I joined Project Noah, I tolerated bugs and could never imagine being capable of handling them. Now I can pick up most creatures I stumble upon, soon spiders.
@ForestDragon: So, this is famous Gypsy Moth! No wonder why it looks like a bat as Agustín Amenabar said. They are invasive. Thank you very much for ID though. I just added.
Nice photos! Unfortunately, this cute moth is part of a contingent of destruction! Introduced to the US from Eurasia and is quite invasive. They have really pretty caterpillars too (if you disregard the tree damage). Here is one of my spottings of Gypsy Moths, it has late instar caterpillars (older), pupa and adult male: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/10771232
Thank you very much for your comment Agustín Amenabar. I agree with you.
Yuko-san. I hated and afraid of insects (especially spiders!) I avoided to find anything moving! Since I joined Project Noah, I am looking and surprised myself to find and meet many interesting creatures. Best of all, I am not afraid of them anymore!
You live in the place with lots of treasures!
Thank you very much for your kind comment, beaker98. Yes, nice moth.
Awesome moth! Looks like a bat with those antennae. Cool pics.
