Field Notes

Description:

An unidentified stink bug perhaps 1 cm in length (not including the antennae) http://www.papua-insects.nl/insect%20orders/Hemiptera/Heteroptera/unide… ... Looks a bit like Amyotea hamata, a yellow predatory shield bug. See http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_stinkbugs/YellowPredatoryShield… but maybe even more like Antestiopsis sp, the coffee bugs, see http://potokito-myshot.blogspot.com/2012/08/antesia-coffee-bug-antestio…

Habitat:

Found on a porch of a village house. Surrounding habitats include ocean beach, disturbed coastal freshwater swamp forest and sago swamp forest.

Notes:

This stinkbug showed up at the house overnight, presumably attracted to a porch light. Another spotting of perhaps the same species from a different location in Papua is found here http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/11633019
