Description:

Lycaenidae; Lycaeninae; Polyommatini; Catochrysops strabo luzonensis Tite, 1959. According to the pictures in Philippine Lepidoptera and the description provided by Wikipedia, this specimen appears to be a female. When this kind of butterfly has been flying around for a day or two, it begins to lose little bits of its wings, especially at the tornus. Whether this is due to predatory attacks or just wear and tear, I am not sure, but they look rather decrepit and it always saddens me to see such a beautiful little creature in its decline.

Habitat:

Spotted on foliage in a rice field which has been allowed to rest and grow wild this year.
