Field Notes

Description:

Endemic to South Africa. The adults have not been observed feeding on flowers. Eggs are laid on rocks covered with lichens. The larva feeds on the algal component of the lichen. Always sit with wings closed.

Habitat:

Lichen-covered rocks in mountain areas.

Notes:

Boland means "Higher land". The mountainous area that starts about 50km east of Cape Town.
