Description:
"One leg will do." A white waterbird in the heron group but with long curved bill. These native birds have come to be regarded as a problem species as a result of their scavenging activities, scattering rubbish from tips and bins. They are even known to snatch sandwiches from picnickers. Such behavior has led to surplus birds being relocated from Healesville Sanctuary to Sale but the birds returned in a few days.

My book (Simpson & Day) calls this the Sacred Ibis, Threskiornis aethiopicus, same as the African one. It has been reclassified in 1991 as its own species.
