Field Notes

Description:

About four-five inches tall, and about seven inches long. Vivid orange eyes! Strongly marked pattern on shell. Thanks for the ID!

Habitat:

Suburban woodland.

Notes:

This critter had climbed to the top of a child's playset (the entry to the set is the top of a natural bank of earth, so I assume it got there by itself). We thought it might hurt itself if it actually got started down the slide, so we moved it further back into the trees. Sorry about the lousy photo, I just had my phone not my proper camera.
