No worries, Jenna! I do not have genetic equipment readily available either and label these as Desmia sp. as well. Perhaps in the future a visually diagnostic characteristic between these two species will be found. By the way, welcome to Project Noah and awesome first spotting! It was taken several hours ago and I don't think I could get that info without it flying off. Although its not reliable I'm going to go ahead and label it as a member of the genus desmia. Thank you!
Desmia funeralis and Desmia maculalis can not be distinguished by a photo and need a photo of the underside, a measurement, and genetic examination.
