Field Notes

Description:

Unique leaflike wing shape. Mohawk-like tuft on head. Light dusty brown color over slightly darker base color with purple highlights. Long, "worm-like" antennae rested along wings.

Habitat:

Found in Northeast Missouri, near mostly fruit and nut orchards, but other wooded areas are nearby

Notes:

Photo taken on brick building outdoors where moth was found. Moth stood with body curved -- possibly a defensive position? Unsure if it is normal/typical for this species.
