Field Notes

Description:

A large, strikingly veined and marked butterfly about 60mm across with classic orange background, black markings, tiny white spots.

Habitat:

In off-road rest area, manicured gardens, small country town adjacent to mountainous, forested national park.

Notes:

Cold conditions in winter. Seemed interested in wattle (Acacia) flowers but didn't stay for long on any. A beautiful looping glide is distinctive to it's flight.
