Wild ginger
Asarum
39.167, -86.5343
Field Notes
Description:
This low-growing, shade-loving herb isn't actually related to ginger. It is known as "wild ginger" because its associated rhizome tastes and smells exactly like the ginger root. It can be used as a seasoning if you don't mind ingesting a potent diuretic that contains the known carcinogen, aristolochic acid.
