Description:
It was nesting time for these pairs of Arctic Fulmars at the time on the South coast of Iceland. With the Southern Fulmar, the Arctic Fulmar is the only extant member of the genus Fulmarus. Fulmars are not gulls, but members of the Procellariidae family, which include petrels and shearwaters.
Habitat:
Coastal cliff ledges, at Ingólfshöfði.
Notes:
These birds have nasal passages that attach to the upper bill, called naricorns. Fulmars also produce a stomach oil made up of wax esters and triglycerides that is is used against predators.
