Finally after scrutinizing two Hawks, what I found as a means of differentiating,,that works for me,is the size. Sharp shinned is the size of a blue Jay.This hawk was much bigger than a blue Jay. I would like to see a sharpie, one day!!
This is an immature Cooper's Hawk. http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Coopers_Hawk/id
Ashley I did update it to Cooper's . size, eye color, streaking up to the belly ,size of head still make me a little unsure. Thanks so much.
That is an adult Cooper's Hawk, this one is a juvenile. They aren't very comparable. They are both Cooper's though
IAshley compare to this one. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/27696143
Finer upper breast streaks, red on the side of the face, and thicker legs make this Cooper's over Sharp-shinned. http://www.birds.cornell.edu/pfw/AboutBirdsandFeeding/accipiterIDtable.htm
Thanks K.andrews. I added more pics!
Very nice spot. Thanks for sharing.
This hawk was heavily streaked in the front and smaller than all the hawks I have seen so far. Sharp shinned hawk?
probably 500,001 or 500,002. For my own records.
