Field Notes

Description:

This Garter snake was about one and a half feet long and was very skinny. It was a blackish brown with a skinny yellow line going down the front of its back to its tail.

Habitat:

Garter Snakes are very common in Massachusetts. They are usually found near marshes, swamps, or wetlands. The woods behind my house are all wetlands, so it isn't uncommon to find Garter snakes at my house. Also, Garter snakes are usually found in and around plants, this on was found under a tree in my back yard.
