Field Notes

Description:

Probably a Sphinx moth, but it does not come close to any moth in my regional checklist (Santa Barbara County) from Butterflies and Moths. I wanted to call it a Hermit Sphinx, but it seems so far out its range, according to Wikipedia.
It secreted clear liquid from its "tail" when threatened, and it bumped its head on the wall many times as it was seeking the light.

Habitat:

Mediterranean Climate.

Notes:

Could this be a Hermit Sphinx?
