Description:

The average male has a length between 35 and 46 cm. This is significantly smaller than the female which averages 42 to 50 cm. Cooper's hawks have short rounded wings and a relatively long tail. Adults have red eyes and have a black cap, with blue gray upper parts and white under parts with fine, thin red bars. Their tail is blue gray on top and pale underneath, barred with black bands.

Habitat:

The Cooper's Hawk breeds from southern Canada to the southern USA. The Cooper's Hawk lives in mixed deciduous forests and open woodlands.
