Field Notes

Description:

Northern Copperhead subspecies (Agkistrodon contortrix mokasen). Adult female of healthy size (~ 2 feet). Did not seem alarmed by our presence.

Habitat:

Rocky area just outside of a crevice that eventually lead to mountains. Railroad tracks nearby. Around the same area that the melanistic Timber Rattlesnake was found.

Notes:

Compare to the Southern Copperhead found in Georgia.
