Field Notes

Description:

Family: Papilionidae (swallowtails) 5th instar. Length: 1 inch (25 mm). Yellow with a little brown and pink underneath abdomen. Black eyes and yellow spots. Little blue spots on abdomen.

Habitat:

Meadow/Woodlands edge on Spicebush plant. Brought home to raise/feed and see changes.

Notes:

4th series in a set of 6 changes/spots. I was expecting this caterpillar to also turn orange or brown, but it went to pupa yellow. When it was time to pupate it moved from the leaves/branches I provided and went on the flower pot holding its food source.
