Field Notes

Description:

Yellow wings with more black patterning in the wings than the larger eastern swallow tail. Nice blue coloring at the base of the wings. Wingspan is about 4 to 4.5 inches. Butterfly is pollinating Zinna flowers in a butterfly garden.

Habitat:

Background garden. The butterflies are attracted to the Zinna flowers.

Notes:

It has been a week since I saw the large Eastern. Compare this western wing patterns with the eastern.

Very fortunate to see one species after another.
