Hmm..now it says New York.

Could you check the date/location for this spotting? Another spotting says that it was found in Pennsylvania on the same date while this one says New Mexico.

Hi Jamie, Halysidota tessellaris is only found in eastern North America, and their larva is grayish with a black head. The scientific name should be H. harrisii or Halysidota sp.

This looks very similar to H. harrisii, though the range of that species only extends to Texas. Perhaps the range is large than we know.
