Very nice spot. Great patterns.
Reports are from the Canary Islands, North Africa, Portugal, Spain, Israel to Middle-East, Altai to the Himalaya. Migrant butterflies can also found in desert-like environment, but usually the love flower-enriched areas. If there are no/nor more flowers in the low land regions the migrant to the mountane areas.
Lovely shot Mary! Now that bayucca has provided you with an ID you can edit your spotting and fill in all the information. Can I ask you whether the location is correct? Or whether this was maybe spotted in a butterfly house? I am asking as I don't see this species reported for the Arabian peninsula. Maybe bayucca knows more?
Welcome and welcome to Project Noah.
