Description:

Physical Characteristics:
Red eyes
Approximately 2" long
Black and yellow coloring

Location:
El Mirage, Arizona
Fell off a tree near a park that is relatively lush and watered daily and nightly.

Habitat:

Underground near trees (nymph stage)

In wooded areas or any areas with a fair amount of trees that also experience warm summers (adult stage)

Notes:

I'm aware that this is a cicada but I do not know the specifics.

Questions:
Is this cicada a -17 year, -13 year, or annual type?
What is the genus?
