Field Notes

Description:

This female specimen is very variable. The male specimen has white spots with borders that reflect blue/purple light at certain angles. The same tattered male specimen continually landed on my daughter.

Habitat:

Melbourne zoo butterfly display.

Notes:

The male shows reflective color zones on the wings to attract partners. Female hypolimnas are very variable and some species are polymorphic, mimicking other (Danaid) species.
