Field Notes

Description:

The Ground-Rollers are a unique family of five distinctive species found only in Madagascar. Four of them occur in the rain-forest of the eastern escarpment; the fifth is found only in the spiny deserts of the southwest, but without the assistance of local guides the species can be very difficult to locate.

Habitat:

Endemic to the island nation of Madagascar.
Seen in the Spiny desert forest north of ifaty on the SW coast.

Notes:

Classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN due to ongoing habitat destruction and a decline in the quality of the remaining habitat.

It is considered by birdwatchers to be one of the world's most elusive birds.
