Frazier,you are correct, I had found a earwig sometime ago, It was identified by Bug Eric as Ring Legged Earwig. we do have that species in my backyard.

I'm just guessing here. The maritime earwig looks like it has longer antennae. The ring-legged isn't always "ringed" and it has shorter antennae. This looks like a male.
I don´t know at the species level but it looks like an earwig (have no idea where such a name comes from (?). In Spanish we call it "little scissors" (tijereta) because of the shape at the rear end.
