Description:

There are more than 1,000 species of Vernonia. Seventeen of them grow in North America. Very tall. This specimen of Giant Ironweed is well over 7 feet. Called Ironweed for its very tough stems. Considered a pest plant in some areas ... but good for bees, butterflies and moths. Medicinal properties.
