Thanks Philip. Done! So would you put the common name as Glyphodes Moth or Crambid Moth?
I went ahead and changed my ID to G. rubrocinctalis. DanJanzen has decades of experienceand is pretty much the main source of knowledge when it comes to Costa Rican moths. Occasionally, I might find a mistake on what he posts to BOLD, but that is not unexpected considering how many specimens he has uploaded. If I were you, I would change the ID, but as there are two differing sourc
Thank you so much Philip... So I should change it to Glyphodes rubrocinctalis? Is that what you meant?
So the original ID I got from: http://www.boldsystems.org/index.php/Taxbrowser_Taxonpage?taxon=Syngamia%20dilutalis However, yesterday I ran across: http://www.boldsystems.org/index.php/TaxBrowser_Taxonpage?taxon=Glyphodes%20rubrocinctalis Usually, when in doubt I got with Dan Janzen's ID, so I would change that ID if I were you. It just goes to show that even BOLD is not a perfect source. Sorry!
If you don't mind me asking, Where are you stationed? Where are you seeing the same moths as me?
The first time I saw it was on Aug 9th. I haven't checked with my partner who was stationed here before me to see if he has seen it too.
thanks Phillip... That looks pretty similar. Did you also see it a week ago?
I had to ID this one a week ago, and it was not easy! I found one mention of it being Syngamia nr. inflammatalis. I was not able to find anything about S. inflammatalis, but I did find S. dilutalis on BOLD. http://pick18.pick.uga.edu/mp/20q?search=Syngamia+dilutalis&mobile=close
Love the colours on this one...
