Description:

Choice edible mushroom in the inky cap family, which moves form the button stage to overblown in a very short period of time. Photo 1 is the end result. Here in Oregon, we joke that you heat the pan with butter and then run out to pick the mushrooms.

These have been accredited with anti-cancerous properties against adenocarcinoma

Habitat:

This is NOT Coprinus comatus, you have one of the lookalikes that occurs on dung. See this key. http://www.grzyby.pl/coprinus-site-Kees-Uljee/species/Coprinus.htm#H1
I'm not surprised. However, I know these little guys taste every bit as good as they smell(and you can smell them from several feet away). I was lucky this year to have several nice clumps!!
Great spotting from Coquille. Did you know that ink for writing was made from these mushrooms.
