Field Notes

Description:

Head and neck black, body purplish chestnut, bill and frontal shield, yellow. Also called "Jesus Bird" because it appears to walk on top of the waters. This is due to teir long-toed feet that allows them to step on top of water lilies and other aquatic plants.
Immatures shown in next spotting.

Habitat:

Caño Negro, Costa Rica.
